While many places are home to beautiful diving spots, it’s the variety of life in Nuweiba reefs that are such a draw. The outcrops of coral and coral walls support roof creatures, orange anthias, butterfly fish, cardinal fish, and damsel fish. The camouflaged hawkfish, lizardfish, frogfish and scorpionfish can be seen hunting prey as photographers hide, waiting for the perfect shot. Seahorses, pipefish, eels and sea cucumbers cleverly hide themselves in seagrass. Open areas are occupied by sand dollars, blue spotted rays and sea moths. Underneath piers are shoals of small fish which are hunted by lionfish.
Although, there are no wrecks in easy range, dive centres visit Sinkers and Pipeline, which are two artificial reef structures just off shore. The dive spots are 20m deep which makes dive time slightly longer for divers. An added bonus to diving in Nuweiba is that visibility is clear because rivers do not carry silt into the calm current.
If you’re uncertain about diving conditions, dive centres are familiar with local conditions and safety standards are high.
Nuweiba itself is relatively sprawled out. However, most of the large hotels on have their own beaches, pools, and dive spots all inclusive. Dive centres are co-operative in transporting guests around to various hotels or beach camps, but travellers may find it more convenient to stay where the dive centre is situated. Dive centres will arrange for guests to take longer trips to dive in the Ras Abu Galum National Park, which is a must see spot in Nuweiba.
